Meet the team behind the team
Our coaches are athletes themselves, so they understand what it takes to become the fastest and excel at your sport. Before establishing MAXIMUS Performance, our coaches were setting national records and competing at at the highest levels. They realized the impact that speed had in all sports and wanted to share their expertise to teach the proper running techniques to youth athletes. Combined they have an extensive background in teaching, coaching and exercise science. Now it’s your turn to become your best with one of Canada’s best!
Dave Tomlin
Co-Founder, Lead Speed & Agility Program Advisor
Dave Tomlin holds multiple regional and provincial age-group sprint records from Grade 7 through high school. He was a World Junior Track and Field Championship Bronze Medalist in 1994. Dave capped off his junior career by winning double gold in the 100m/200m at the 1995 Pan American Junior Championships. The following year, he was the Canadian Senior National Champion in the 200m. Later, he went on to make multiple appearances on Canadian national teams, including a semifinal appearance at the 2003 World Indoor Championships. He has extensive experience in coaching as he was a coach at University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University, and Chula Vista High Performance Training Centre.
Kenen shadd
Co founder, Speed & Agility & head jumps coach
Kenen Shadd has excelled on the international level in long jump and triple jump. In high school, he was an OFSAA record holder and five-time champion in triple jump, triple Canadian Junior Champion (twice triple jump, once long jump), and a finalist at both the Pan American Junior Championships and IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships. Shadd’s high school exploits earned him a full ride scholarship to the NJCAA, where he became a national champion and All-American in the triple jump. He then moved on to compete at the NCAA Div. 1 level. Kenen has had the privilege to be coached by some of the top coaches in the world. In his spare time he enjoys giving motivational speeches to children.
Dwayne Harriott
Speed & Agility & assistant jumps coach
Dwayne Harriott is a 5 time OFSSA Gold medallist, 3 time Canadian national champion, 3 time Ontario Legion champion, Under 15 and Under 17 Triple Jumper record holder, 2 time CI’s Canadian Champion in the sport of track and field, and Illinois state champion. He has had the privilege of representing Canada in various International competitions and placed 5th in the Pan American games in 2005. Dwayne was a personal trainer for many years improving his clients’ physical fitness and health. He holds a BA degree in Education and takes pride in helping athletes excel within their sport, as a coach and physical education teacher. Today’s athletes are the future, tomorrow’s heroes, and today’s rising stars.
Crystal Shadd
Speed & Agility & Biomechanics specialist
As a college professor, Crystal Shadd has an extensive background in the fitness and health promotion field both academically and by experience. She holds a Masters in Exercise Science as well as certifications in Coaching as well as Speed and Explosion. Crystal has competed for Canada for 11 years in the sport of track and field. She held the Jr. Canadian National record for the triple jump for several years and still holds several Provincial and high school records in the 100m, 200m, triple jump and long jump. Crystal was offered over 15 different scholarships from different Division 1 colleges. In her days of training, she trained with top world class athletes and coaches in both track and field and in weight training. She also coached and attended many world class symposiums at the Olympic Training Center and US Jr. Olympic development camps.
Nancy Spreitzer
Speed & Agility & assistant jumps Coach
As a Physical Education teacher, Nancy Spreitzer is very passionate about teaching and coaching youth. Nancy played basketball, volleyball and track and field growing up and now coaches these sports. She was Junior Athlete of the Year and Graduating Athlete of the year at her high school. In University, Nancy competed for four years in track and field and one year of basketball at the University of Waterloo where she was an Academic All Canadian for three years. For track and field she was UW’s Rookie of the Year, Captain for two years and MVP in her final year. Giving back and helping other people is very important to Nancy. She was recognized as a two time OUA Community Service Award Winner and a CIS Community Service Award Winner. Nancy really enjoys getting to know her athletes while providing feedback so that they can ultimately be successful athletically, academically and by helping others in our community.
Jill Buchanan
Jill competed in track and field and cross country throughout all five years at the University of Waterloo. During her university career, she qualified for and competed at the CIS National Championships in both track and cross country each season. Jill was also recognized as an Academic All-Canadian and served as team captain of the cross-country team. As an athlete, she specialized in middle-distance events and brings that experience and knowledge into her coaching.
As a coach, Jill is passionate about supporting young athletes as they work toward their individual goals while training in a positive and encouraging environment. She believes track and field should be an experience where athletes can grow, build confidence, and try new things. Jill is dedicated to helping athletes develop as runners while building memories that can last well beyond their time on the track.
Adrian Buchanan
Adrian brings a dynamic, multi-sport background to coaching, with experience across both track and field and football. He was an OFSAA finalist in the triple jump and competed in track and field for all four years at the University of Waterloo, where he was also the team’s fastest 60m sprinter. In addition to track, Adrian played varsity football with the University of Waterloo and held the starting defensive back position with the KW Titans and the Tri-City Outlaws.
As a coach, Adrian believes that strong sprinting fundamentals are the key to developing true speed, and that speed and agility form the foundation for success in all sports. He is passionate about helping young athletes build these skills while keeping practices fun, engaging, and supportive. Known for bringing humor and high energy to every session, Adrian focuses on forming strong connections with his athletes—creating an environment where kids feel confident, motivated, and able to bring out their best.
Chris Green
Chris Green is a former elite Canadian track athlete and hurdles coach with experience coaching regional, provincial, and national-level hurdlers, including champions at each level. He has been part of Maximus Performance since 2023.
As an athlete, Chris competed at the highest levels of the sport in Canada, the NCAA, and internationally. His career highlights include being a five-time OFSAA gold medalist, five-time national champion, and a two-time Team Canada member, representing Canada at the Pan American Games and World Championships. He also earned a full-ride Division I scholarship at Texas State University.
In 2013, Chris was a member of the Canadian men’s 4×400m relay team that set the national record.
Chris brings his experience as a high-level competitor into his coaching, with a practical and athlete-focused approach shaped by years of training and competition. He works with athletes across multiple stages of development and enjoys helping them prepare for higher levels of competition.
Jahmeeks Beckford
Jahmeeks Beckford brings an ELITE football resume and a true passion for athlete development. He is a Vanier Cup Champion, OUA All-Star and was a standout defensive player with the Tri-City Outlaws. Jahmeeks comes to us with 17 years of coaching experience and has helped develop athletes across every level of the game called Football. His coaching roles have included: Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks, Championship KW Predators U18 (now Jr. Warriors), Cambridge Lions (U10-U14), MVP 7v7 Travel Teams, Tri-City Vipers Flag Football and Guelph Soldiers Flag Travel Team. Jahmeeks is the co-developer of Maximus’ Football program and with 20+ years of professional experience in youth engagement and program development, Coach Jahmeeks is committed to building confident athletes by leading with his booming energy and genuine care for each individual athlete.
Sam Gardner
Sam Gardner is one of the co-developers of our Maximus’ Football program. He comes to us with 7 years of football coaching and 20+ years of playing experience. Sam’s accomplishments include winning high school championships, competing with the Wilfred Laurier, Tricity Outlaws and Titans. Sam brings leadership, championship experience and a passion for developing young athletes. Sam has worked with athletes across flag and tackle football including the Tricity Titans, Cambridge Lions, Tricity Vipers and Jr. Waterloo Warriors programs. He focuses on fundamentals, teamwork, resilience and personal growth, helping players both on and off the field.
